Arrested man carrying strange cargo

Arrested man carrying strange cargo
By Wallace Clark

Miami Springs Police arrested a 55-year-old man on Tuesday night and charged him with loitering and prowling and carrying a concealed weapon. Despite the relatively minor charges, police feel that the arrest prevented the potential of a much more serious crime.

Police were called around 9:30 p.m. by a teenage boy who was walking near the Circle. The youth told police a man driving a white van with maroon stripes had been following him for several blocks, blowing kisses and beckoning the youth to the van. Police swarmed into the area, saw the van on the Circle and stopped the vehicle on the outgoing bridge.

The driver was identified as Jose B. Vivar, who gave an address of 2731 N.W. 27 Street in Miami. He told police he had recently moved from Totolochee Drive in Hialeah.

Police searched the van and found a six-inch knife in open view in a driverís door compartment. Vivar said he uses the knife for laying carpet.

Officers also found an open bottle of rum in the center console, several different types of condoms, lubricant, an empty prescription bottle for Cialis, numerous pornographic movies and magazines, a portable TV with a built-in VCR/CD player, a bottle of Zoloft and several prescriptions for Oxycodone.

Vivar denied driving on the Circle even though he was seen there by police officers. However, when an officer asked Vivar who he was following, he said, ďI donít know who he is.Ē

Vivar told police he shares his van with his three son and they might own the items found inside.

Since Vivar gave conflicting stories as to why he was in Miami Springs, he was arrested for loitering and prowling. He was also charged with carrying a concealed weapon because of the knife.

A check of Dade-County Jail records on Wednesday afternoon showed that the loitering and prowling charge had been dropped and Vivar had been released for time served on the concealed weapon charge.

A records check revealed that Vivar had previous arrests for loitering and prowling, prostitution and fleeing police.

Miami Springs Police

the Miami Springs police continue to show how important it is to have a fast professional force for situations like this. Why can-t they get fast attention from our council? Why can-t they get a new contract? Oh because the city wants a new pool, gras$, Westward path, but forget about the police. We need a council that puts our police first.

Beautiful Miami Springs is a quiet residential community located in the heart of Miami-Dade County, Florida. Literally, just minutes away from anything in Miami, it's a slow paced oasis within the larger hustle and bustle of greater Miami.

Miami Springs was founded in 1926 by Glenn Curtiss, also known as the "Father of Naval Aviation." Miami Springs is a middle to upper middle class neighborhood with a mix of blue collar and white collar workers. At the core of Miami Springs is a championship style 18 hole golf course that has hosted hundreds of tournaments and celebrities alike.

Miami Springs has a mix of homes ranging from modest to luxury. Most of the larger, luxury style homes can be found along the beautiful golf course.

Miami Springs has a row of hotels along NW 36 Street, adjacent to Miami International Airport. The proximity to the airport and the 10 - 15 minute distance to the Port of Miami Cruise Ships and South Beach makes Miami Springs a popular hotel destination for tourists from all across the globe.

MiamiSprings.com was created in 1997 by local businessman and Miami Springs resident, Nestor Suarez. Nestor loved the city he grew up in and created the first website dedicated to the Miami Springs and Virginia Gardens area. To this day, Mr. Suarez still operates the website providing local news, events, updates, and photos. The website also has a popular (and sometimes controversial) political forum where anyone can discuss current local issues, politics, ideas.
