Miami Springs Pool Concepts Revealed

6/16/2014

The City will have an opportunity to review the new Miami Springs Pool Concepts created by Bermello Ajamil & Partners, Inc.

Concept 1 - Renovation - $4.5 MILLION

This concept completely renovates the existing pool and building including completely renovating the bathrooms and offices as well as the new pool structure, finish, gutters, and all associates piping and pool equipment.

Concept 1A - 50 Meter by 25 yard pool - $6.8 MILLION

Note sure why they didn`t call this concept 2, but concept 1a is a new 50 Meter by 25 yard pool with a new 2 story building for $6.8 MILLION. This pool would be constructed where the current pool parking lot is today.

CONCEPT 2 - 25 yard by 25 meter pool + Warm Water Pool - $5.9 MILLION

This is a smaller version to the 1a concept with a smaller 25 meter pool, but adds on a second "warm water pool." It also includes the 2 story building for $5.9 MILLION.

CONCEPT 3 - 25 Meter Pool Attached to Community Center - $6.7 MILLION

This is very similar to Concept 2, but instead of using the existing pool parking lot, it uses part of the community center parking lot and part of the land where the existing pool is located. Instead of the pool area flowing from east to west, this new aquatic center is north to south. It would create an L-SHAPE between the community center and the pool. It also includes a larger Warm Water Pool.

CONCEPT 4 - 25 Meter Pool Attached to Community Center - $6.7 MILLION

Concept 4 is identical to concept 3 except it locates the new aquatic facility midpoint to the property and just north of the community center.

SLIDES: None of the concepts mention slides.

KIDDIE AREAS: None of the concepts mention kiddie areas.

CONCESSIONS: None of the concession concepts place it in a area to serve patrons at the recreation center.

SECOND FLOOR: All of the pool concepts with a second floor quote the second floor at over $400,000. Is that needed?

ditto olympic sized pool

We want our olympic sized pool. Plus, we want a small toddler kiddie area. Nobody wants or needs a 2 story pool building. Except of course, the builder and the pool consultant who-s making a quarter million on this by the way.

Interesting

Not bad. I think concepts 3 and 4 are the best, but I have to agree with some posts that there should be some sort of an area for children only. If you want to bring out more from the community that is the way to do it.

50 meter pool

50 meter pool + kiddie area. We deserve a 50 meter pool + kiddie area.

comment

It would be asinine to build a competition level pool when we have no team, it is significantly more expensive to build and maintain, and doent include kiddie area. To suggest that meets bring in significant revenues to local businesses is asinine.

Meets

Does the council have the cost of competition equipment written into their little plan? The timing system, scoreboard, computer console etc.? Add another 50,000 to the plan. Or will they drop that on us when the Doral team wants to host a meet to make money? How about the cost of the starting blocks at 1500 plus each? Or the lane lines.... Short course at 300$ long course at 700$ Gotta add in the cost of the swim.....

No 1A

Bring competitions to the town? Are you just plain stupid? High school district and regional meets last one day and pay less than 1000$ USA meets aren-t coming here unless the private club hosts the meet.....and they get the money except for the pittance we charge as rent. So get over the big money will come attitude for competition. Not happenining. Instead look at what our families really want or need. Someplace to get wet, play and hang out together. Does that sound like lap swimming? Add some fun.... Rock climbing walls, slides, a zip line. Splash items and sprinklers. The two pool concept leaves space for lessons and play at the same time....so the pool can be open for everyone. And it means that smaller heating bills will be needed. Think about it.

1A All The Way!!

It would be asinine to go through this expense and not build a competition level pool. No only would renting the pool for meets help us pay for the costs of building and running our pool, but it would bring badly needed business to town. Anything other than option 1A would be a serious mistake.

splash area for kiddies

Get rid of the second floor and add a fountain splash area

Disappointed

Disappointed that the residents input and feedback were not taken seriously. Then people wonder about these guys lining their pockets.

Olympic Pool

We want our olympic sized pool. Plus, we want a small toddler   kiddie area. Nobody wants or needs a 2 story pool building. Except of course, the builder and the pool consultant who-s making a quarter million on this by the way.

2 story pool building

The 2 story building is excessive. Lack of kiddie pool and slides is disappointing. All you need for a kiddie pool is a 20 x 20 splash area. It doesn-t have to be big for the little tots to have fun and get wet.

FAIL

Not one concept has a kiddie splash pool. Not one concept has slides. Did they not listen to what people said in these forums? Or was that just political theater? these are the same concepts they had from the beginning. Nothing changed. The concessions are not available to people outside the pool as was brought up in one of the sessions. What a waste. FAIL

CONCEPT 1A

it needs more work but 1a gets my vote.

Beautiful Miami Springs is a quiet residential community located in the heart of Miami-Dade County, Florida. Literally, just minutes away from anything in Miami, it's a slow paced oasis within the larger hustle and bustle of greater Miami.

Miami Springs was founded in 1926 by Glenn Curtiss, also known as the "Father of Naval Aviation." Miami Springs is a middle to upper middle class neighborhood with a mix of blue collar and white collar workers. At the core of Miami Springs is a championship style 18 hole golf course that has hosted hundreds of tournaments and celebrities alike.

Miami Springs has a mix of homes ranging from modest to luxury. Most of the larger, luxury style homes can be found along the beautiful golf course.

Miami Springs has a row of hotels along NW 36 Street, adjacent to Miami International Airport. The proximity to the airport and the 10 - 15 minute distance to the Port of Miami Cruise Ships and South Beach makes Miami Springs a popular hotel destination for tourists from all across the globe.

MiamiSprings.com was created in 1997 by local businessman and Miami Springs resident, Nestor Suarez. Nestor loved the city he grew up in and created the first website dedicated to the Miami Springs and Virginia Gardens area. To this day, Mr. Suarez still operates the website providing local news, events, updates, and photos. The website also has a popular (and sometimes controversial) political forum where anyone can discuss current local issues, politics, ideas.
